The Domino Effect of Protesting

by Vince

Barack Obama lead the Memorial Day services at Arlington Cemetery. This was then protested by the Westboro Baptist Church, whose protest was then counter-protested by a group claiming to be part of the KKK.

It is rare that I post two political cartoons in one day but this one couldn’t be passed up.

Upholding Freedom of Speech: Not Meant For Picking and Choosing

by Vince

Sarah Palin was one of the many who responded to the Westboro Baptist Church’s victory in its Snyder vs. Phelps SCOTUS case. As a half term governor, an individual holding a degree in journalism, and a possible presidential candidate, you’d hope that she could grasp two of the aspects of our first amendment.

Sarah decries the verdict of the case and laments that, in her eyes, we cannot invoke God in the public square. Her latter complaint seems to square with sprinkled cases of rubbing God out of our public schools. Has she not been down much into the lower 48 to know that much of Washington D.C. is plastered with 10 commandment statues? Or what about the case she is decrying – it has in fact upheld the right to a wacky, inbred family to invoke the name of God in many public squares. I can’t help but laugh a bit right now at the irony of her claim.

Finally, Sarah denounces (as do most of us) the vitriol of the WBC. She pushes for their freedoms of speech to be taken away. It is only when she agrees with someone that she wants freedom of speech and religion to be in everyones face and supported, lest your labeled unpatriotic and guilty of defiling our inerrant, divinely constructed Constitution.

You cannot pick and choose what should be protected by free speech and what cannot. If that were the case, we would be in a scary state of despotic rule where if a trend of speech attacked a certain political party or person at the wrong time, they would be arrested, demonized, or worse. Freedom of speech is freedom for us always and forever.

I bet I am hell-bound

by Vince

I just found myself reading some items at the Westboro Baptist Church’s website and watching on Netflix their documentary, Fall from Grace. Here are a few of their headlines for upcoming picketing events or “praises”:

Thank God for 19 more dead troops. We are praying for 19,000 more.”

They did not wait long for this next one.

I bet that some post I have on here guarantees that in their eyes I am going to hell. I refuse to post any image of theirs on here because none of them are not innocuous.
